Family  Fun  at  The  Zoo

Saturdays have become very precious to us.  It is really the only day that we get to spend together as a family and do things.  The rest of the week is full of work and meetings.  This past Saturday we decided to see what the local zoo here in Aurora had to offer.  It is a free zoo, so we really couldn’t go wrong.  It was the perfect day to go since it was overcast and not sweltering heat.  The zoo was good and not too big.  I think our favorite exhibits were the cougar, wolves, crocs/alligators and the owls.  At one end of the zoo they have a park with toys and so we let Nik go play for a while.  We didn’t stay too long because the humidity was getting worse and sweating just because you are standing still isn’t exactly pleasant.  Nik had fun but was hot and sweaty so we let him play in the splash pad on the other side of the zoo.  (The people who planned this zoo were really smart.  Putting a park, a zoo, a splash pad and a dinosaur exhibit all together was smart.  Apparently there is also a swimming pool, golf course, and discovery building as well.)  We all had a fun time.

Goose  Eggs

Do you ever have one of those days where everything seems to go wrong and the world seems to be caving in on you?  Well, I had a whopper of a day this past week, which I hope I don’t have to repeat.  I was stressed, emotional, sad, and struggling, not to mention crazy post pregnancy hormones.  I couldn’t wait for Ryan to get home, but he had to work late that day.
He finally got home and I was so relieved. (Is it just me or do you just feel like life is so much better when your husband gets home?)

We were all excited to be with daddy.  Nik couldn’t wait to show his dad the new cool car he got that day for being a good boy.  Ian needed to be fed, so I let Ryan and Nik catch up while I went somewhere quiet with the baby. (You have to love feeding time.  Sometimes it’s the only time you get to get away somewhere quiet and just relax for a little bit.  Feeding time is awesome.  Everyone, for the most part, leaves you alone during this time.  Its funny because you think that there would be other times you could be alone, for example, going to the bathroom or taking a shower, but that is so not the case.)  So I was a little excited to have some quiet and alone time, but to my surprise Ryan and Nik decided to come in the room and hang out too.  Okay.
I was just finishing up with Ian.  Nik was showing Ryan how fast his car could go.  I looked up and WHACK!  You see, my 4 year old decided the best way to show how fast his car really was, was to launch it through the air, and, it just happened to find the center of my forehead.  Wow, that was just awesome! (Or not!) It was the cherry on the top I guess you could say. And that was it.  That was my breaking point.  I had tried all day to be happy and positive and be patient, but no more.  I couldn’t do it. I just cried. (Now it did hurt getting hit by a pointy metal flying car, but it wasn’t really why I was crying)  And upon discovering that I was crying of course everyone freaked out and was worried.  I tried to stop but I just needed some time to cry and just get it all out.  Sometimes you just have to.  So that’s what I did.  Ryan took everyone and let me lie in my amazingly soft and perfectly unmade bed and let the tears melt away the terribles of the day, and a serious case of post pregnancy hormones.
Although I am better now, my poor face is not.  I have a goose egg the size of a silver dollar on my forehead, as well as being graced with an equally large bruise and a headache that has lasted for an entire week.  I guess you could say after all this, I will think twice about buying a toy car for Nik.

Nik made it better that night by making us all laugh.  Ryan had just picked him up to take him to his room for bedtime when he says, “ Wow dad!  Your arm pit feels a lot fuzzier than I thought! ”

Awesome Nik.  Just awesome!

Bath time is fun around here.

Ian  At  4  Months

Ian is a true joy.  Honestly he is all sweet smiles and melt your heart doe-eyed looks.  All I have to do is look at Ian and whatever worry or problem or sadness just diminishes or rapidly fades away.  He is just that wonderful.
Here is what he is up to these days :
·      He loves playing on the ground surrounded in toys.  He loves to turn on his sides and grab at everything while still desperately trying to devour his perfect chubby little hands.
·      He loves to be held more these days, but tends to make it difficult by remaining at straight as possible, therefore allowing the person holding him to do nothing but devote all of their time and attention on him. (Clever little guy)
·      Ian also refuses to look at the person holding him.  For whatever reason, he will look at everyone else, but no matter what you say or do he wont look at you.  Weird and frustration at the same time.  Oh well.
·      Ian is acclimating to his crib these days.  I still haven’t switched him from our room to the boy’s room yet.  He would probably be just fine with it, but it’s me that is having a hard time letting go.
·      Ian is certainly finding his voice, and it is so much fun!  He screeches and chirps all day long now, and you can tell he thinks its pretty great.
·      It’s quite amazing, but Ian’s toots are so loud that they sound like a full on adults toot.  It’s both funny and alarming.
·      Ian loves, loves, loves his tubs!  He has discovered how to splash, and when he discovers that he is in the water, immediately begins splashing and doesn’t stop till the water is all gone.
·      Ian is also starting to smile more and more.  I love it!  We are working on getting him to laugh more.  Every time we try to get him to laugh, you can tell he wants to laugh, but its as if he is also purposely trying to hold his laugh in and stop it.
·      Ian is the funniest little eater.  He eats every 2 hours still, although it’s starting to be a little longer between feedings these past few days.  He loves to eat, and when he does, he starts moving his arm like he is swimming.  He does this the whole time he is eating and its really quite funny.  I am not sure why he does it, perhaps he thinks it will help him out while he eats, who knows.

·      Ian watches his big brother like a hawk.  He loves to just sit and watch Nik, no matter what he is doing.
