A Baby Blessing
When
we had Nik, I was such a green mom. I
had no idea about anything! When it came
time to bless Nik, I didn’t really know how to plan for it etc. We lived in a little town home, it was July
and sweltering dry heat. We didn’t have
room for people in our house (we barely fit ourselves). So we asked Monica if we could combine
efforts for Nik’s blessing and Tim’s 40th birthday. She was seriously my hero! She said yes and
hardly gave me anything to do for the whole thing. I can’t believe how kind she was, a serious
answer to prayers. It was a good time,
but I definitely wanted things to be different this time around.
I
wanted to have good food and have things decorated and color coordinated and be
all prepared so the day of, I wouldn’t have to worry and do much, but could
focus on company and enjoying the moments.
I planned and prepared and was pleased when we all had such a good
time.
All
of Ryan’s family was able to come, except for Boyd, as he was feeling ill. It felt like a Whitesides family reunion. As for my side of the family, only my parents
were able to come. I felt such joy that
they could come. They are so wonderful
and make my life so much better. I wish
more of my brothers and family could have come, but I understand that sometimes
it’s hard to make it to events when you live far away. David had just broken both his knees (I cant
believe how accident prone he is!), so he and his family couldn’t make it. Matt was over in Kansas going to school, and
Mark and Meg couldn’t come as Meg was just getting ready to have baby
Brody. Even though my brothers and
family couldn’t come, we could feel their love and support.
Ryan
gave Ian a beautiful priesthood blessing> and to celebrate the occasion, we
gathered at our home in Santaquin, and it was wonderful. Everyone brought delicious side dishes (salads
and fruits). I decided to make beef
carnitas, and for dessert we had some yummy cupcakes. We had beautiful flowers from our garden
everywhere and our colors were navy blue, white and gold.
