Niklaus Turns 4
Sometimes
I can’t believe that we have a four year old. I mean, where did the time
go?! I look at my wonderful son, and
think often of how blessed we are for him.
He really is our world. And so
each year when we get to celebrate him, we try to make it as special as we can,
to help him know how much he is liked, loved and cherished.
We haven’t ever really thrown a birthday party for him in years previous, because we figured he was too small and wouldn’t even really know what’s going on, and also because we really don’t live by family. But this year was different. In being one year older, and being able to appreciate what a party is, we decided to throw Nik a party. There were several themes we could choose from, as Nik likes a variety of things, but in the end decided to go with the Pirate theme, as it was a little easier (easier food and activities to make and organize for a sick, swollen, and uncomfortable 9 month pregnant mom). So the date was decided and the invitations went out. The day arrived and we had about 10 kids show up. Nik had so much fun, which I am so glad about. It made all the effort worth it. The kids got to dress up as pirates with their bandanas, hats and eye patches, as well as making and decorating fun pirate swords. They went on a pirate adventure/treasure hunt and sailed in large cardboard pirate ships fully outfitted with ammunition and of course pirate flags. After our adventures, they were able to make jewel bracelets and have chocolate cake and ice cream, followed by the presents. It was a great time over all and I do believe Nik loved the excitement, fun, friends, chocolate cake and ice cream, and of course the presents. For days after his party, Nik kept asking when his next party would be. I don’t think he understands that he won’t be having another party for a year.
