Welcome Ian Sheldon
Let
me just begin this post by telling how incredibly blessed we are to have Ian in
our lives. We prayed and begged and
pleaded and fasted for him for what seemed like 3 very long years. We went thru fertility specialists and
Invetro, but in the end, Ian could not be forced here. He was meant to come to us at a specific and
special time. No matter how much I
wanted it to happen, I could not force God and needed to learn a lot of
lessons, including Gods timing. In the
end, we were able to get Ian without all the doctors and medicines. If you asked me then, or ask me in 50 years,
I will tell you that it was a TRUE miracle. Each child is a miracle and I
cherish our miracles with all my heart.
While
I love Ian, my pregnancy, I did not love.
I was crazy sick starting in week 6 and continued to be sick until the
end really. I became lactose intolerant,
gluten intolerant, and sugar sensitive on top of all my morning sickness and
hypersensitive prego nose (meaning that I could smell absolutely everything,
and everything truly stunk!). Ryan and
Nik were so good thru the whole pregnancy and took really good care of me. I was basically bed ridden and Ryan had to
step up to be both parents for a lot of the time. My mom also played a BIG role in helping me
through my pregnancy. She was truly a lifesaver!
(Seriously she is the BEST.)
We
were so happy to make it to the end (39 weeks) with this pregnancy (not like
Nik who came exactly 3 months early or 28 weeks). The doctor induced me a week early, and I was
all too happy about that little decision.
We went in early in the morning and started. For the most part the labor was fine. I
decided to get an epidural this time, and it helped a lot. I went faster than I thought I would, and
after a couple of hours were close to delivering. It was around that time that things started
to get a little tricky. Ian’s heart rate
would drop dramatically with each contraction and concerned the nurses enough
to insert a heart monitor into his scalp.
I was so glad that they did this, because they were able to determine
that the chord was wrapped around his neck.
Since my water had already been broken, they decided to put fluid back
inside to help try to get the chord from around his neck, but unfortunately it
didn’t work and only resulted in making him sick. After awhile they decided that Ian had
minutes to come out, or else. With the
NICU standing by, my doctor tried to get Ian out. The chord was making it too much for him to
come out on his own, so the vacuum was used, but that wasn’t enough. They then used the forceps (poor guy!). At 2:30 on April 9th 2014, Ian
Sheldon Whitesides finally made it into this world and into our waiting
arms.
Our
lives are so full right now because of this new addition to our little
family. Ian is such a miracle and a
blessing from a loving and gracious Heavenly Father.
