Sickness  befalls  us  . . . again  &  again  &  again . . .

I guess our family thought it would be a great idea to bring in the Fall season by getting sick.  Ian started us out with a bad cold and then I became sick as well.  After feeling better for a few days, I came down with my very first case of Mastitis.  (Anyone who has had this knows that you feel like death itself.)  I guess my body didn’t want to say goodbye so soon to mastitis, because I came down with it yet again about a week after getting it all cleared up.  I was so sick, Ryan had to call a neighbor lady to help me with the kids since he couldn’t leave work and we don’t live around any family. (Why is it that it’s so hard to receive help from others sometimes?)
Funny story:
While I was not feeling well, trying to get over my first bout of mastitis, our landlady came over to see about some plumbing issues we have been having here at the house.  (She actually met a plumber here, but that ended horribly.  She and the plumber had an extreme disagreement and had a somewhat scary altercation in my kitchen with me watching the whole thing.)  She acted as if she wanted to sit and chat for a few minutes so I asked her to sit.  After a few minutes of light talk, she said to me, “I hear you have been sick. What was it?”  As I quickly decided in my mind weather to skirt the illness or not, I said, “Oh, well, I had Mastitis.”  She gave me this strange blank look, and then said “Oh! You’ve got a sty in your eye!”   I tried not to show my bewilderment as well as suppress the laughter that wanted to bubble up out of me, I replied, “Um, no, it’s a sickness you get from breastfeeding that gives you flu like symptoms.”  She just looked at me as if she still didn’t understand and changed the subject.  It wasn’t till later in the day, that I had a good laugh about it.

I then battled infections for the next 2 weeks, while Nik, followed by Ryan and Ian, yet again, decided to get sick again.

We are now at the end tail of things, but are hoping that we have filled our quota for the year.
